Medicine Guide for Seniors

The updated version of Medicines and You: A guide for Older Americans has just been published by the Council on Family Health.

The guide explains problems people might encounter when taking medications for a variety of ailments. It also includes a chart consumers can use to list the medications they take.

"As one gets older, body changes can affect the way medicines are absorbed, distributed, metabolized and excreted," says Robert G. Donovan, president of the council. "The more seniors know about their medicines and the more they communicate with their health professionals, the better their chances are for avoiding possible problems with medicines."

A free copy of the guide is available by sending a stamped, self-addressed, 6-inch by 9-inch envelope to Council on Family Health, "Medicines and You," 1155 Connecticut Ave., NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20036. The council's website is www.cfhinfo.org.
